Department of Medical Devices Techniques is charged with teaching basic methods, methods and tools related to designing medical devices, experiments, systems and services, with a focus on users and the context of use. Medical device design brings together candidates from a range of fields including design, healthcare, engineering, and business, and prepares graduates to play a leading role in developing emerging medical devices. The program focuses on the interdisciplinary nature of medical device design, and covers topics ranging from basic medical science and vital devices to product design and human factors. At the core of the program is a focus on the needs of people in healthcare. Through a range of projects, students learn to conduct human-centered research, extract meaningful insights, create and visualize concepts, develop and evaluate prototypes, all within the context of a complex and highly structured world of medical device design. Covering the theoretical and practical aspects of the discipline, this course encourages students to design from a human-centered perspective while gaining a deep understanding of the science, technology, materials, and basic manufacturing processes that underlie medical device design and development. This department is concerned with studying the human body from anatomy and physiology from the engineering side specifically.
